Daily Maintenance Tips for Your Café Racer Fuel Tank

By Cafe Racer Go March 30th, 2025 291 views

Your café racer’s fuel tank is more than just a fuel container—it’s a key part of your bike’s aesthetics and performance. Regular maintenance ensures it stays rust-free, clean, and in peak condition. Here’s a daily routine to keep your café racer tank looking great and functioning perfectly.

1. Inspect for Damage or Leaks

Before and after every ride, give your fuel tank a quick visual inspection. Look for any dents, scratches, or leaks. Small issues can turn into bigger problems if left unchecked.

2. Check the Fuel Level and Quality

Make sure you have enough fuel for your ride and inspect its quality. Old or contaminated fuel can lead to engine performance issues. If your bike has been sitting for a while, consider draining old fuel and refilling with fresh gasoline.

3. Clean the Tank Surface

Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the exterior of the tank. If there’s dust or dirt buildup, use a gentle cleaner suitable for motorcycle surfaces to prevent scratches and preserve the paint or finish.

4. Keep the Fuel Cap and Seal Clean

Dirt and grime around the fuel cap can lead to contamination inside the tank. Wipe the cap area regularly and check the rubber seal to prevent leaks and fuel evaporation.

5. Prevent Rust Formation

Moisture is the enemy of metal fuel tanks. If you store your bike in a humid environment, consider using a fuel stabilizer or adding a small amount of two-stroke oil to the fuel to coat the inside of the tank and prevent rust.

6. Drain Water and Condensation

Condensation can build up inside the tank, especially after temperature changes. If your tank has a water drain plug, drain any excess water periodically to prevent corrosion inside the tank.

7. Store Properly

If you’re parking your café racer overnight, keep it in a dry, covered space. If possible, cover the tank to protect it from dust and moisture.

By following these simple daily maintenance steps, your café racer’s fuel tank will remain in excellent condition, enhancing both the look and longevity of your bike. Keep your ride stylish and road-ready with these quick checks!
